CREC aims to provide safe and reliable electricity at the lowest possible cost. As a nonprofit cooperative, CREC sets our rates as close as possible to the cost of service and does not earn a profit.

Your monthly bill will be the sum of the above charges plus any applicable fees, optional additions, and local and state taxes.

Operation Round Up

CREC's Operation Round Up program empowers your community by rounding your electric bill to the nearest dollar. The program supports area nonprofits through community grants, scholarships for local students, and more. The average monthly contribution is just $0.49, or $6 per year. Learn more.

Dusk to Dawn Charges

Optional service: The charge covers energy and maintenance: $11.25 per month for a light from an existing transformer and $15.30 per month for a light from a dedicated transformer. Learn more

Green Power

You can choose to purchase part of your monthly energy from renewable sources. A separate monthly charge will appear on your bill if you purchase Green Power. Learn more.

$1.00 per 100 kwh block. 1 block minimum, 12-month commitment, additional blocks based on kwh consumption.

MyPower Prepaid

CREC’s MyPower can help you manage your electricity costs. The electricity prepay program lets you:
•   Monitor daily energy use and cost
•   Set your payment schedule
•   Set energy use and account balance alerts (by phone, email, or text)
•   Forego paying a deposit if one is required

Deposits

A security deposit (ranging from $200–$500 or two times the highest monthly 24 months of usage based at the location) may be required for service, based on the member's credit risk. For small commercial service requests, a deposit of $500.00 is required for new construction. For existing locations, the small commercial deposit will be two times the highest bill from previous 12 months of usage at the location.

The cooperative retains the right to increase, decrease, waive, or hold the security deposit until termination of service.

Electric Service FAQs

What is a kilowatt-hour?

We pay for electricity in kilowatt-hours (kwhs). One kilowatt-hour is the equivalent of using 1,000 watts for one hour or using a 100-watt light bulb for 10 hours. When kilowatt-hours add up, electric bills get higher. And kilowatt-hour usage is adding up more and more each year. According to statistics, the average family's use of electricity is increasing at a rate of 4 to 7 percent each year.

What does it cost to run my appliances?

To calculate the exact use of your appliances, use the following formula. (Look for the serial plate on the bottom or back of the appliance. It lists the power used in terms of watts (w) or amps and volts.)
•   amps x volts = watts
•   watts x hours = watt-hours
•   watt-hours / 1000 = kilowatt-hours (kwhs)
•   kwhs x Residential Electric Rate* = estimated cost of using appliance

EXAMPLE: We will use an electric hand mixer as an example. This appliance requires about 127 watts. Following is how you would figure its usage for 15 minutes:
•   15 minutes = 1/4 hour, so 120 watts x 1/4 hour = 30 watt-hours
•   30 watt-hours / 1000 = .03 kwhs
•   .03 kwhs x .065 cents = .19 cent (nearly two-tenths of one cent)

For a larger appliance such as a water heater, remember that it is only running when it has clicked on and is heating water. The time your water heater is on varies according to how often you do laundry, take baths or run the dishwasher. For this example, let's assume your water heater is on for three hours on a particular day (the national average).
•   4,500 watts x 3 hours = 13,500 watt-hours
•   13,500 watt-hours / 1000 = 13.5 kwh
•   13.5 kwh x .065 cents = 87.8 cents

Or, from another angle, you can see that you would use 4.5 kwh for every full hour that your water heater is on. That means it costs you 29.2 cents per hour.

Final Bill Process

When your electricity service ends with Cuivre River Electric, we create a final bill based on your last day of service. Here’s how it works:

1. Final Meter Reading

We are taking a final reading on your disconnection date to determine your last kilowatt-hour (kWh) usage.

2. Final Bill Calculation

Your final bill includes:

· Energy used since your last billing

· Taxes and any remaining fees

3. If You Had a Deposit on Your Account

· Your deposit is applied to your final bill.

· If your deposit is more than the amount you owe:

o The extra amount becomes a refund.

o If you have another active account with us and no other outstanding debt, the refund will be transferred to that account as a credit.

o Otherwise, we will send the refund directly to you.

· If your deposit does not cover the full bill, you pay the remaining balance.

4. If You Did NOT Have a Deposit

You simply pay the full amount of your final bill by the due date.

5. Account Closure

Once the final bill is paid (or any refund is issued), your account is closed.

Electric Meter Equipment and Bases

Your CREC meter connects energized power lines to your home. If the meter requires service or disconnection for any reason, trained employees are available to assist.

For new construction or locations that have never had electric service, the member is responsible for supplying and installing the meter base for both single and three phrase services up to 320 amps. The cooperative will provide meter bases and metering transformers for both single and three-phase services rated 600 amps or greater. The cooperative reserves the right to reject the use of any meter base not pre-approved by the cooperative.
