Green Tree Partnership Grant

Green Tree Partnership Grant

The Beautification Committee of the Green Tree Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is the latest recipient of a $1,000 Green Tree Partnership grant sponsored by Cuivre River and its power supplier, Central Electric Power Cooperative of Jefferson City.

"The grant money, along with other efforts and donations, has allowed us to develop a beautification project which has enhanced the grounds at Green Tree Elementary," says Principal Angela Politte. "Our school and community members will be able to enjoy the results for years to come," she adds. The school is located at 1000 Ronald Reagan Drive in Lake Saint Louis.

Trees purchased with the PTO grant funds include a variety of species, including Norway Spruce, Dawn Redwood, Ginkgo, Star Magnolia, Jane Magnolia, Witchazel and Bald Cypress.

A qualified community organization can apply for up to $1,000 to help purchase trees for parks, school grounds, historic sites, roadside areas, public buildings and other public locations.

A tree planting plan must be submitted with a Green Tree Partnership grant application. "When you plan your project, be sure that trees will be clear of overhead and underground utility lines as the trees are planted and as they grow to maturity," says Chris Ryan, who coordinates the program at Cuivre River. "Include a map or drawing of planting locations, tree types and proximity to utility lines," he adds.

Grants may also be used to match funds for other programs, such as the Missouri Department of Conservation's Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance program and the Transportation Enhancement program administered by the Department of Highway and Transportation.
