Cuivre River Celebrates 10th Tree Line USA Award

Cuivre River Celebrates 10th Tree Line USA Award.Cuivre River Electric Cooperative has been named a Tree Line USA Utility for the 10th consecutive year, states Dan Lambe, Arbor Day Foundation Vice President of Programs.

This achievement recognizes the cooperative's national leadership in caring for and protecting community trees while meeting service objectives.

Cuivre River Superintendent of Right-of-Way Maintenance Scott Skopec says the past 10 years of meeting Tree Line USA goals has helped improve electric reliability and promote healthier trees beyond the right of way. Cuivre River was the first Missouri electric cooperative to achieve Tree Line USA status. Three additional cooperatives now share this designation.

The goal of Tree Line USA is to promote safe, reliable electric service and abundant, healthy trees throughout a utility company's service area.

Requirements include: (1) following industry standards for quality tree care; (2) annual worker training in best tree-care practices; (3) participation and sponsorship of tree-planting and public education programs; (4) tree-based energy conservation programs; and (5) participation in Arbor Day events.

Lambe says, "Your efforts in meeting Tree Line USA requirements not only help provide beautiful trees for the future, but also result in long-term operational savings for your utility."

Arbor Day Foundation Chief Executive and founder John Rosenow says, "Trees are an important part of urban landscapes all across the United States from an environmental and economic standpoint."

"Trees not only help clean the air and water sources, they provide shade that helps reduce peak energy usage and conserve energy. Utility providers like Cuivre River are setting a good example by recognizing the importance of taking care of a valuable community resource like trees," he adds.

The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, recognizes utility providers that demonstrate practices that protect and enhance America's urban forests.

The Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit conservation and education organization dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship. For more information about the Foundation and Tree Line USA visit www.arborday.org.
