Operation Round Up Monthly Summary

Funds help meet community needs

Cuivre River Electric Community Trust volunteers recently awarded $20,500 to support community and emergency services and help local families.

  • The largest grant, $5,000, went to the Northeast Community Action Coalition to help meet the emergency needs of Cuivre River member families in Lincoln, Pike, St. Charles and Warren counties.
  • Fire protection districts in Old Monroe and New Melle each received nearly $2,000 to help purchase emergency equipment.
  • Our Lady's Inn in Defiance received $1,500 to help improve safety and security at its emergency residential maternity home.
  • Calvary Church West in Wentzville received $500 to help purchase supplies for local students.
  • Wentzville VFW Post 5327 received $500 to support veterans participating in the annual Run for the Wall. The annual motorcycle ride to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. travels through Wentzville May 24. Riders and supporters work to recognize the sacrifices and contributions made by all veterans who have served our nation.
  • In addition, funds were awarded to help families meet medical expenses, and address the special needs of disabled adults and children.

Cuivre River members voluntarily contribute to Operation Round Up by donating from 1¢ to 99¢ each month as their bills are rounded up to an even dollar amount. Funds are distributed each month by volunteers who screen applications and implement program guidelines. Guidelines established in 1997 focus on the unmet needs of community and emergency service providers, and help families and individuals meet expenses in the areas of education, youth, health and home weatherization.
