Habitat for Humanity Receives Grant for Wentzville Area Project
Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County will use a $4,000 Operation Round Up grant to help provide electrical wiring for an eight-home project in the Wentzville area.
"Funds from Cuivre River will help Habitat to continue to fulfill its mission to provide low-income families with affordable housing," says Executive Director Ashlee Johnson. In addition to home ownership, Habitat helps families become self-sufficient and serve others in need within the community.
"The outpouring of community support for this project has been overwhelming," says Development Coordinator Kelly Brooks. There are more than 100 sponsors; volunteers have provided more than 20,000 hours of labor.
The eighth home is scheduled for occupancy this month. Family selection is based on the need for shelter, ability to pay and willingness to partner with Habitat. Families invest 350 hours of "sweat equity" labor, which can include lot clearing, construction, painting, serving volunteers and working in the Habitat office. The St. Charles group has constructed 37 local homes.
