Calendar Spotlights Local Talent, Local Photos Now Available
Lisa Ayers and Linda Koch of Elsberry recently won top honors in Cuivre River's 2012 Photo Calendar Contest. Ayers's photo earned her the "Best Young Photographer" award; Koch won "Best of Show." Each claimed a $100 cash prize.
Prize categories, a new addition to the contest, helped draw more than 135 entries. Judges from the St. Charles Community College Foundation and Marketing Department chose winners and selected calendar photos. Second place finishers received $75; third place, $50.
Each photographer could submit two photos, but only one photo was eligible for a cash award.
Young photographers up to age 18 were encouraged to enter for the first time. Marissa Kyser of Troy took second place with “Pink flower power” (August); Bryan Kyser of Troy took third place with “Up the tree without a ladder” (September).
Koch's Best of Show photo titled “First signs of Spring” will be featured in March. Lynn Watkins of O'Fallon took second place with “Feed me” (June); Carolyn Schlueter of St. Charles took third place with “Red hot Winter” (December).
Other photos chosen for the calendar include: “Rainbows and lightning” (April) by Cindy Talbot of Elsberry; “Sunflowers at sunset” (July) by John Strange of Troy; “Beautiful rural Missouri sunset” (October) by Samuel Franklin of Silex; and “Colored leaves” (November) by Dan Landiss of Aspenhoff.
