Cuivre River Electric Committee Seeks Candidates For Four Seats.Committee Seeks Candidates For Four Seats

The Nominating Committee is now seeking Board of Director candidates for Cuivre River Electric Cooperative's August 14 election at the Annual Meeting. The event will be held at the Family Arena in St. Charles. Four directors will be elected, one from each of these districts: Lincoln County District 3, St. Charles County Districts 1 and 3, and Warren County District 2. The committee seeks interested and qualified candidates who reside in these districts to serve three-year terms. Bylaws require at least two candidates in each district. The deadline for candidate nominations is Monday, May 11. Qualified candidates will be asked to attend a Nominating Committee Reception and interview on May 19 at the Cuivre River Lake Saint Louis office. High school seniors and college students from Lincoln, Pike, St. Charles and Warren counties are encouraged to apply for a Cuivre River Electric Community Trust Scholarship. Cuivre River Electric Cooperative (CREC) will award fifty scholarships totaling $25,000 to students this spring. The CREC scholarship deadline is Friday, May 1. Scholarship funds are donated by CREC members who participate in Operation Round Up by rounding up their electric bill payments each month to the next highest dollar. Read more…

“Concern for Community” is the cooperative principle that won the hearts of most finalists in Cuivre River Electric Cooperative’s 47th Annual Youth Tour Final Competition on April 8. Twelve local students presented their essays touting “The Power of Cooperative Principles” with judges and guests attending the event. Students’ speeches and cooperative quiz scores determined the most important contest of the evening, the selection of Cuivre River’s delegates to attend the National Youth Tour Conference in Washington, D.C. this summer. Cuivre River Electric Cooperative seeks high school sophomores in Lincoln, Pike, St. Charles and Warren counties for the Cooperative Youth Conference & Leadership Experience (CYCLE) program. Local teachers may nominate sophomores to serve as CYCLE delegates, or students may apply independently. Students are asked to complete an application and submit a narrative about their school activities and community service. Applications are available beginning March 1 through the April 30 deadline. Bright smiles and healthy children are priorities Give Kids A Smile (GKAS) and Operation Round Up have in common. They recently partnered to provide free dental care to Cuivre River area youth through a $4,400 Operation Round Up grant supporting the GKAS bi-annual clinic at the Center for Advanced Dental Education at St. Louis University. “Operation Round Up funds are combined with additional resources to provide underserved children with comprehensive dental care. Oral examinations, professional cleanings with fluoride treatments, sealants, restorations, x-rays and oral surgery are provided at no cost."  Read more...

Cuivre River's annual member satisfaction survey is now in progress. A randomly selected group of members will receive postcard notifications and may receive a follow-up survey call. The postcard will include a survey ID code and survey-specific web site to use if they prefer to take the survey online. "Choosing a randomly-selected group helps us make certain we hear from members all across our service area," says Manager of Communications Mary Jane Clark, who coordinates the annual project. "We are also very interested in what other members have to say," she adds. All interested members may take a similar survey on the Cuivre River Electric web site where a survey link will be accessible. Cuivre River Electric Portable Generator Safety Tips.Use Portable Generators Safely; Avoid Deadly Mistakes

Portable generators can be helpful during an extended power outage. But if not operated properly, they can place you as well as Cuivre River Electric Cooperative line crews at risk of injury or death. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that as many as 190 non-fire carbon monoxide-poisoning deaths have occurred in a single year. Most were related to portable generator use. (1) The first rule: Never, ever use a generator indoors — even with windows open — or in an enclosed area, including an attached garage.
