2013 Calendar Spotlights Local Talent, Local Photos
Marissa Kyser of Troy and Mark Charles of Wright City recently won top honors in Cuivre River's 2013 Photo Calendar Contest. Kyser's photo earned her the "Best Young Photographer" award; Marks won "Best of Show." Each claimed a $100 cash prize.
Prize categories, a new addition to the contest, helped draw more than 171 entries. Judges from the St. Charles Community College Marketing and Communications Department chose winners and selected calendar photos. Second place finishers received $75; third place, $50.
Each photographer could submit two photos, but only one photo was eligible for a cash award.
Young photographers up to age 18 were encouraged to enter for the first time. Jonathan Romanko of Troy took second place with “Monarch Butterfly On Flowers” (March); Austin Gross of Winfield took third place with “I Spy A Super Dragonfly” (June).
Marks' Best of Show photo titled “Hummingbird” will be featured in April. Shelly Kannel of Lake Sherwood took second place with “Daybreak On Cuivre River” (November); Michelle Nantel of Winfield took third place with “A Beautiful Orange Sunset” (December).
Other photos chosen for the calendar include: “Great Blue Heron In Flight” (January) by Linda Koch of Elsberry; “Deep Freeze” (February) by Jenna Marco of Lake Saint Louis; “Tingle Tangle Triangle” (July) by Carolyn Schlueter of St. Charles; "Harvesting Fun" (August) by Cindy Talbot of Elsberry; "Destroying Angel" (September) by John Strange of Troy; "Real Men Wear Pink" (October) by Joe Snell of Lake Saint Louis and “Crisp Winter Sunset” (Cover) by Rob Tweddle of St. Charles.
