College students from Lincoln, Pike, St. Charles and Warren counties are encouraged to apply for a Cuivre River Electric Community Trust Scholarship. Fifty-seven students received a total of $28,500 in scholarships from Cuivre River Electric Cooperative (CREC) in June to help them pursue their undergraduate degrees and you could be next!  The CREC scholarship deadline is Wednesday, October 1. Cuivre River Electric members elected four directors at their annual meeting Friday, August 8. Four directors were re-elected to new three-year terms in their respective districts. Troy Galloway of Elsberry was successful in his bid to serve another term in Lincoln County District 1. Tammi Kneib of Wright City was chosen to serve a second term in Warren County District 3. Cuivre River Electric members attended their annual meeting Friday, August 8 at the Family Arena and Anthony Boelhauf, Wentzville won the top prize of free electricity for one year ($1,500 bill credit). John Milton and Jeanne Gilbert, Dardenne Prairie and Vera Arroyo, Lake Saint Louis each took home second prizes of a $500 bill credit.  Ronald and Trevor Lockwood, Elsberry and Kenneth Bellamy, O’Fallon each won third place prizes of $250 bill credits. Cuivre River Electric Employee Leroy Gladney Retires.Leroy Gladney Retires

Leroy Gladney said farewell to Cuivre River after 28 years building power lines. Friends and coworkers gathered to wish him well as he climbed from Truck 485 on his last day at work. His career as a lineman spans 37 years, including nine years with Croft Electrical Contractors before joining the Cuivre River workforce in 1986. Prior to his employment he served six years with the U.S. Marines. With Cuivre River he worked 14 years in Lake Saint Louis and 14 years in Troy, always in line construction. He was named a Crew Chief in Lake Saint Louis in 1997, and later became a Crew Chief in Troy. Read more…


Cuivre River Electric Bill. New Format Starting September 2014.Will You Be Seeing RED?

Don't be alarmed if you start seeing a little "red" on your bill. Beginning September 1, Cuivre River will implement a new disconnect notification method for accounts in arrears. Members with bills that are already nearly a month past due will see a disconnect message printed in "red" ink on their electric bills. "Members who pay regularly but sometimes run a little behind may now receive the 'red' disconnect message, though they previously did not receive a disconnect notice," says Supervisor of Consumer Accounts Tammy Nolan. "We don't want them to be alarmed if they routinely pay each month." Previously, a "yellow" notice has been mailed in addition to a bill with the past-due amount. Read more...

Medicare coverage is the top concern of many Cuivre River members, and their number one web search topic for the Co-op Connections Card program in 2014. Touchstone Energy Cooperative, which operates the Co-op Connections program for Cuivre River and more than 450 electric cooperatives nationwide, added the online "Healthy Savings Medicare Assistant" just a few months ago. Cuivre River College Dorm Safety Tips. As a new college year begins, students leaving home for the first time will need to be aware of electrical hazards in their new dorm rooms or apartments. These important safety tips can help electronics and appliances you bring from home function safely in your dorm: Don’t overload extension cords, power strips or outlets. They can overheat, deteriorate quickly, and cause a fire or shock hazard. If you use a power strip, get one that will shut off power automatically if there is too much current. Check appliance power cords and extension cords. If a cord is frayed, cracked or cut, replace the cord or safely dispose of the item. Remember that water and electricity don’t mix. Read more…
